One day while becoming lost in
the maze of Fukuchi-in, I got a nice photo of a portion
of the garden area. The green mounds, which you see in better
detail in the right hand photo, are each one azalea bush.
They are white-flowering azaleas, and they told us that when
they are blooming, the mounds look like snow.
The monastery grounds were
beautiful, as these three photographs attempt to show. The bamboo
fence above protects the rock garden in the left photo. The top
rail of the fence is a huge piece of tree bamboo that was split,
then stuffed with straw, bent and tied. It was quite an impressive
piece of work.
A curving bridge and a pond with
lotus plants...what more could a photographer ask for? (lotus
blossoms, that's what!) On the right is the belltower.
